Hey this Happened to me today and I am wondering if this will work I wana ask have you had a WD security software password set on your faulty HDD? I HAD IT ON MINE I AM NOT SURE OF THE SWAPPING BOARDS WILL WORK

What if the light comes on but no spin and mac wont recognize it but light is on. Do i still need to replace the board or do you know if the drive it self failed??. Also i shucked the drive put in my PC and the PC recognized it but i couldn't open it..says needs to be formatted. thanks for the help

I bought a similar kit WD 8TB with the same exact numbers on the box, and circuit board....upon a close look via magnifier, I saw my data cable female port side had developed some white residue that could be corrosion. So IF this PCB is the key to replace it and screw everything BACK, including snap on the housing......Im all for it! I got many many photos from that hard drive. I dont want to find out that something happened and I lost over 1000 images of events .

I have one that turns on but nothing pops up on my computer. So it's not reading it. But I do hear the fan on the external hard drive so it turns on but it doesn't read. I have the WD Book 1 TB. If I buy a second one that's a has 640GB, will it work? I cannot find any 1, 2 or 3TB. Sorry I am not a computer person. I went to Best Buy and they quoted me roughly 400$ 😭

I did the same thing getting a doner power board but it still couldn't read it.

Well I did not know about this hardware encryption. I'm getting a flashing green light for the last 30 minutes. I can see the drive by name connected to router but can't access. I haven't tried the hard reset yet. If the board is dead so you get any lights???

Just tried this. Waited for the correct controller board to arrive from Germany (They seem to be getting harder to find). Unfortunately, it didn't work, but I think my disk itself died. I have the 6TB version. When it turned on, it was really loud and I'm pretty sure I could hear slight grinding. Never knew I would need a backup for my backup. I'll avoid WD products from now on. I lost years of pictures.

Any suggestions for a the 4 tb version?

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.....I used a software called TestDisk(free software) on my PC and was able to read all the files and copy them to a new drive.

Mine sat in the back room of my daughters mobile home for 8 months and became the home for 1000 cockroaches. When I tried to plug it in after being deployed it instantly died. I took it out of the case it was CAKED SOLID in bug crap and live bugs. I took it outside and took a dry toothbrush to it, but it still won't work. I'm going to have to try this.

I just bought one of these! I figured it would be good for beginner/intermediate film making! Others test footage was good enough but this one shows the actual capabilities of this camera!

You know I have the three terabyte my book as well and I'm having the same issue and I've sent out the original PCB board that controls the power and whatnot however as I was reading forums is stated that the microchip which has the encryptor built in onto the controller PCB needs to be swapped out to a new board which is what I have went and done but I do have a additional PCB controller from a smaller drive I was wondering if I should try that before I even get my repair back and who's to say that that will even work pray for me I have all my family's pictures and my brother passed away from cancer 7 years ago at the age of 23 on them as well as a lot of his basketball games God bless you for this either way

Hi, I have a question, does each of the wd my book drives have unique board for all of the drives of the same model or for all the drives the boards are different for each drive? if we find a exact same model of the drive is enough ? or we also need to put efforts in finding a board with any specifications ? This worked perfectly. Many thanks. Bought a second hand 2TB drive with same product number on eBay. Turned off computer. Plugged in the old drive with new circuit board attached, turned computer and drive on and the PC recognised the old drive and all the data I expected to see was still there. I'm running Win 10.

Allthough in nowadays (June 2022) you can find a camera that can capture in 4K, 6K, 8K (even a 4K with the same money), the result of the old JVC is fantastic. Excellent !!!
